The ILB launched to a report of 2 persons cut off in Rotherslade. When the ILB arrived on scene 4 minutes later, a man and child were located on a large rock east of Rotherslade, due to the tide surrounding the rock and rough seas hitting the rock they were unable to get back ashore. Following an assessment of the conditions and the situation it was decided that it was too dangerous to attempt a rescue by sea. As the tide had started to go out it was safer to stand off and await the arrival of Rescue Helicopter 169 from RAF Chivenor. When the helicopter arrived the pair were winched to safety and landed on the beach at nearby Langland Bay.

Details
ILB was tasked to the report of a person in the water in Swansea Bay, off Sketty Lane. Mumbles ILB started a shore-line search of the immediate area defined by the Coastguard, who were conducting a shore-based search. To aid the night-time search, the lifeboat crew set off two white para-flares, and the Coastguard also set off one. The RAF Search and Rescue Sea-King Helicopter 169 was launched to aid in the search. As the ILB was preparing to conduct a creeping-line search, the casualty was located in 2ft of water. Due to the severe hypothermic nature of the casualty and the long distance to the roadway, the casualty was airlifted to hospital by 169, who landed on the beach alongside the casualty.
