The crew received a report from local fisherman of a man walking out into the sea from Knab Rock Slipway.  The ILB crew conducted a creeping line search of the shoreline, taking into consideration the state of tide and weather.

The search was supported by Mumbles Auxillary Coastguard teams and RNLI shorecrew.  Using paraflares to light up the area during the search.

No person was spotted in the vicinity, the search was increased to involve Police Helicopter Whiskey 99 to search the area using heat sensitive camera imaging.

After 2 hours of searching the Coastguards called off the search for the night.  A shoreline search was carried out by Mumbles Coastguard teams at low water on Sunday Morning.

The ILB received a report of a missing suicidal male, whose car had been found with the keys in the ignition in Bracelet Bay Mumbles.  The crew conducted a thorough search of the surrounding area, taking into account the state of the weather and effect of the tide. 

The search was supported by Police Helicopter Whiskey Oscar 99, however no person was found during the search pattern.

SW Force 6 No Crew Launched Mumbles ILB crew paged to attend an incident involving a possible person in the water off the Foreshore at Mumbles Square. On further investigations, the casualty was identified as a fisherman tending to his nets. ILB crew stood down.

The Police were informed of an incident with a member of the public threatening to jump off the West Pier Swansea.  Swansea Coastguard paged the All Weather Lifeboat to conduct a search of the area near the West Pier, taking into consideration the Search Area Determination.  In order to assist the search the ILB was requested to launch, as well as coastguard team who carried out a sweep of the Water line near Swansea Observatory.

During the search RAF Chivenor Rescue Helicopter 169 was also requested to assist with the search.  After almost three hours of searching by 5 teams using paraflares, search lights, infra red imaging the search was called off with no persons found.

Both ALB and ILB returned to station.

A motor boat had suffered engine failure and the crew were tasked to recover the vessel and return her to the mooring at Mumbles.  The crew passed a tow to the 4 persons on board and pulled her back to the mooring buoy in Mumbles. 

The casualties were then transferred to awaiting Coastguards at the Village Lane slip.

The crew received a report of a dive boat and buoy without anybody in attendance on the water.  The crew were sent to investigate the safety of any divers.  A lone diver was contacted and informed of the danger of diving alone.  Crew returned to station.

ILB was launched to a report of a person in difficulty in the water off West Pier Swansea.  The ILB launched and with weather conditions made full speed to the scene.  A passing power boat spotted the person in the water and recovered the casualty and returned them to shore.

The ILB crew followed the power boat into the Tawe Lock to offer first aid assistance.  After assessing the situation the ILB crew returned to station.

A member of the public spotted three French visitors attempting to cross from Middle Island to the shoreline with an incoming tide.  The informant stopped the three people, who were unaware of the potential danger they faced crossing the water.  After contacting the coastguards on 999 the ILB crew launched and landed the three back to the safety of the ILB station.

Taking details was very interesting as their English was just as bad as our French!

The crew returned to the fishing vessel which was aground near the Observatory and were able to pass a line and recover the boat to deeper water.

The ILB crew maintained a watch as the fishing vessel returned to the safety of Swansea Marina.

A report was received of a 17ft Fishing Vessel ran aground near the Observatory in Swansea.  The crew located the vessel 1/2 mile from the tide line.  The vessel was in no imminent danger and the crew recommended to wait for the tide to turn before attempting to pull the vessel back into deeper water.

Mumbles ILB was requested to launch to a swimmer in difficulty between Hunts Bay and Foxhole.

The ILB launched on service, making best speed to the last reported position.  Once on scene the ILB crews attention was attracted by a fisherman as the casualty had been washed onto the rocks below him.  The ILB recovered the casualty and returned him to the safety of Mumbles Coastguards in Hunts Bay.

ILB paged to a 999 call reporting a person jumping off Mumbles Pier.  The ILB crew conducted searches around the pier and across to Bracelet Bay.  The search was supported by RAF Chivenor 169 SAR Rescue Helicopter and 3 coastguard teams based on shore.

Following a thorough search of the area no person was found.  The coastguard contacted the first informant by telephone on numerous occasions but was unable to get a response.  The Coastguards called off the search believing the matter to be a hoax call.

Over 25 staff and volunteers were involved in this call.

While on exercise Swansea Coastguard contacted Mumbles ILB - Immediate.  A jet ski had got into difficulty and was drifting past Mumbles Pier out towards the Channel.  The ILB made best speed through a rough swell and was directed to the casualty by local fisherman on the Pier who had contacted the Coastguards with their concern.  The ILB crew pulled the casualty out of the sea, he was very worried that he was going to drift away from land.  The jet ski was taken in tow and returned to Knabb Rock Slipway.

Following the initial launch of the All Weather Lifeboat, the remaining ILB crew were paged to offer assistance for the broken down pleasure craft “Scamp”.  The ILB took the tow off the ALB crew at the mouth of the River Tawe and took the boat, in an alongside tow into the Tawe Lock, and to its pontoon mooring.

Swansea Coastguards requested the attendance of both the ILB and ALB to a 999 call reporting a fisherman being washed off the rocks at Snaple Point, Langland Bay.  The ILB launched from the slipway at 20:30hours and made best speed to the casualty's last known position.  Upon arriving on scene the ILB conducted a quick search of the near vicinity where the fisherman was last seen.  Upon failing to spot anything, the ILB proceeded to conduct a creeping line search through Langland Bay and the adjoining Rotherslade bay with the aid of search lights, night vision glasses and paraflares.  Once the ALB arrived on scene the ILB conducted a tandem parallel track search and due to no further sightings, and no one reported as missing the ILB was released to return to station. 

Police Helicopter Whiskey Oscar 99 concluded the search over the area and confirmed no sightings.

Mumbles ILB Crew were waived down by a member of public whilst patrolling the Annual Raft Race. A member of public had swum ashore earlier in the evening after declining assistance from passing vessels. The casualty was suffering from exposure and had not warmed up since his escapade. Lifeboat doctor and crewmember placed ashore with casualty whilst Mumbles Coastguard and Ambulance First Responder tasked immediately by the ILB. Casualty handed to Ambulance service on their arrival.

Mumbles ILB paged to assist a Yacht in drifting towards Mumbles Pier with a fouled propeller. ILB proceeded to the scene and took the casualty vessel with 1 POB in tow and safely berthed her on a local mooring for the evening. ILB returned to station.

Mumbles ILB paged to attend a developing incident on the foreshore at the bottom of Sketty Lane, Swansea Bay. One male casualty was reported to be attempting suicide by walking into the incoming tide, Police, Ambulance and Mumbles Coastguards were also in attendance. Mumbles ILB launched on Service shortly after and made best speed to the location. ILB then contacted by Swansea Coastguard and informed that the casualty was safely ashore and in Police custody. ILB returned to Station.

The crew were paged to a report of a small dinghy in difficulty off Swansea Marriott with 2 children on board.  The ILB made its way across the bay and located the dinghy. The 2 children had managed to swim ashore and were met by Mumbles Mobile Coastguard team, a first response ambulance and paramedics.

The crew collected the damaged dinghy and returned it to the ILB station.

While conducting a maintenance strip down of the ILB, a member of the public entered the boathouse to inform the crew that 2 people and a dog were trapped by an incoming tide on Middle Island Mumbles Head.  The crew contacted the Coastguards who agreed to launch the boarding boat.  The ILB could not be used as it was stripped, deflated and off service.

The crew conducted a search around both Islands and could only find a fisherman who intended to stay out for the duration of the tide.  The call was taken as a false alarm.

This shout was the fourth of the day for the Mumbles crew.

While in the process of taking details from the first casualty of the evening.  The crew spotted a 24ft yacht had broke its mooring.  Quickly setting up an alongside tow it was pulled to the bresting buoy and safely secured.  The owner of the boat had spotted the problem from ashore and launched in a Rib to tow the yacht back to its mooring.

Whilst the ILB was on service the crew waiting at station spotted a small catamaran with 2 persons on board in difficulty east of Mumbles Head.  The on shore crew launched the station boarding boat to offer assistance.

A local power boat had also spotted the crew who were fatigued and offered assistance.  The power boat towed the catamaran back to Knab Rock, while being watched by Mumbles RNLI Boarding Boat.

The ILB was paged to a report of a wooden dinghy drifting south of Mumbles Pier. Swansea Coastguard requested the crew to keep a watchful eye for persons in the water whilst on route.  The crew recovered the dinghy, which had broke its mooring. After checking if the engine was warm, or that fuel was on board, Swansea Coastguard requested the dinghy be towed back to the moorings in Mumbles.

Whilst on route a 27ft yacht spotted it's dinghy being towed and were very appreciative that we had managed to return the boat to them.

While on exercise the crew were requested to give assistance to a Tender boat which had lost power of Mumbles Pier Beach.  The crew set up a towline and pulled the vessel with one person on board back to the safety of Knab Rock.

The crew were able to respond to this call very quickly and had launched the ILB within 3 minutes of being paged.

The motor boat was suffering with engine failure and required a tow to Knabb Rock.  The crew rigged a towline and pulled the vessel to the safety of the slip and gave assistance to get the boat out of the water.

The ILB was paged and transferred 2 adults back to the shore.

The crew were tasked to assist a 14ft power boat which had broken down off County Hall in Swansea.  The boat was  located with its two occupants and passed a tow.  It was then transferred to Knabb Rock in Mumbles, where the crew assisted to recover the boat onto its trailer.

The crew were tasked to a capsized boat off County Hall, Swansea.  The ILB proceeded to the search area to look for the vessel.  No capsized boat was spotted.  Seeing people on the beach in the area, a crewman was taken ashore to investigate any further detail.  2 young females confirmed that it was their dinghy which had capsized and they had swam ashore.  They were unaware of the major search that was about to take place involving RAF Chivenor Sea King Helicopter and Mumbles All Weather Lifeboat.

The crew returned to sea and located the empty dinghy which had blown around Swansea Bay towards Blackpill.  The dinghy was recovered and taken back to the ILB station.

The crew were taking 2 Duke of Edinburgh students on a training exercise as part of their Bronze Medal.  Swansea Coastguard tasked the ILB to the immediate assistance of a person in the water off Swansea West Pier.  The first informer had spotted the casualty drifting away from land across the bay toward Mumbles. 

The crew spotted the person in the water approximately 500 yards off shore.  The casualty, showing signs of fatigue,  was immediately collected into the ILB wearing shorts and a t-shirt.  Covered with a hypothermic blanket he  was transferred to the Marina Lock pontoon to the awaiting ambulance and police crews.

ILB crew were tasked to a boat adrift south of Mumbles Lighthouse.  The ILB crew located the boat and set up a tow line to return the craft to moorings in Mumbles.

Unusually the crew were asked to search a crash scene following a 4 seater plane ditching in the sea 400 yards off Bracelet Bay in Mumbles.

The plane had taken off from Swansea Airport on it's way to Exeter, but suffered engine failure shortly after take off.  The pilot made a text book emergency ditch into the sea and was able to climb out of the aircraft.  The crash was spotted by the local fishing vessel "Kiora" who proceeded to the scene.  The pilot jumped into the sea and swam to the  fishing boat, shortly after the plane sank.

A major incident operation was triggered with corresponding emergency services.  The ILB entered the datum and conducted a sector searched for any wreckage.

The ILB was tasked to the immediate assistance of a person in the water off Pennard Cliffs.  The ILB made its way at full speed from Mumbles to Pennard.  Once on scene crew from Heli-Med Rescue Helicopter directed the ILB to the exact location of the casualty.

Two crew were transferred to the shore and assisted by recovering the casualty back onto land to the awaiting paramedic team.

In total 3 lifeboats, 2 coastguard teams, 2 helicopters, police and ambulance teams were involved in the operation.

The ILB beached onto the island to allow the three men to jump aboard.  They were taken back to the station and met with the awaiting Coastguard team to take their details.

Swansea Coastguard received a call alerting them to a dog left unattended in a punt on a mooring at sea in Mumbles. The ILB crew were asked to find the owner and report that leaving a dog unattended was a prosecutable offence.

The crew located the owner who was sailing in Swansea Bay and informed him that unless he took action, the RSPCA would be contacted by the Coastguards and asked to attend the scene.  The dog's owner returned to his punt to tend to his dog.

The ILB was paged to assist a 18ft motor boat that had anchored off Mumbles Lighthouse who were unable to start the engine.  The ILB gave assistance by passing a towline to the casualty and pulling her back to the slipway at Knab Rock.

The boat was pulled onto its trailer with the assistance of the crew and details were taken by the awaiting coastguard team.

As part of RNLI training the Helm elected to allow other crew members to become more involved in the launch.

The ILB was required to recover a 19ft Fletcher Speedboat - "Sovereign" which was at anchor, but unable to start her engine.

The ILB crew set up a tow and recovered the vessel to Knab Rock in Mumbles.  2 Persons were transferred to land once the boat had been moored.

A 16ft Motor Vessel - Kerry Arthur had suffered engine failure after launching from Knabb Rock.  The ILB crew recovered the strickened boat and returned it to the slipway.

The crew then carried on with it training assessment.

The ILB had already launched to support the Yacht Racing in Swansea Bay.  Whilst on route to the race Swansea Coast Guard requested an immediate response to a 999 call.  The ILB set towards Mumbles Pier and found a 18ft Power Boat - Wet Dream, dangerously close to the rocks and being pushed by the tide.  The ILB crew passed a line and quickly pulled the vessel to safer water out at sea.

A tow was set up and a crew member transferred to the casualty.  Every effort was made in an attempt to start the boat, which was suffering with electrical problems.  The crew were unable to start the boat and following a discussion with the boat owner it was agreed to commence a tow to Swansea Marina where the boat was berthed.

20 minutes after the crew had left the station the pagers were set off by Swansea Coastguard.  On returning home one of our crew members spotted two people gesturing for assistance on the Middle Island at Mumbles Head.  The crew member contacted the mobile coastguard team, who assessed the situation and requested a second launch of the lifeboat within the half hour.

A second crew were assembled and recovered two people from the Islands.

The ILB was paged to the assist two people trapped by the incoming tide on Mumbles Head.  The ILB need to take two passes to collect both casualties, once on board the helm requested that both crew, who were ashore, to walk to the gravel area of the island protected from the incoming tide.  Both casualties were unharmed and returned ashore to the awaiting Coastguard team.

ILB brought to immediate readiness whilst coastguards attempted to ascertain validity of a 999 call reporting multiple persons in the water in Bracelet Bay. Coastguards eventually concluded that this was a Hoax call and crew stood down.

ILB was tasked whilst on exercise to aid a capsized catamaran 1m west of the ILB House. ILB proceeded and stood by whilst vessel was righted, no further assistance required.
