Power Boat Racing

During the Powerboat weekend in June the event, due to safety reasons was cancelled on Saturday, sue to poor weather conditions. However on Sunday officials of the race took the decision to allow racing to take place in a South Westerly Force 4.
At the start of the first race H17, a powerboat with three crew on board suffered fatal damage to the hull and the boat started to capsize. Swansea Coastguard were contacted immediately, who paged the ILB to attend the scene. At station, the crew were given the report of a boat capsizing, three crew in the water, one suffering neck injuries and unconscious.
The three crew members, all of which are trained in first aid rushed to the assistance of the casualty vessel. Once on scene first aid and oxygen was administered onboard the lifeboat by the ILB crew and South Wales Air Ambulance crew who had attended the scene. The boat was towed, under water back to the marina pontoon.
The air ambulance lifted the injured casualty to Morriston Hospital, following medical diagnosis the powerboat contender was allowed to be released from hospital. Fortunately there was no serious injury to life at sea, however there had been a significant financial loss to the powerboat team.
On this service launch crew were paged and launched within 1 minute, which assisted in the safe resolution of the incident.
Powerboat racing continued during the day to the enjoyment of contenders and spectators.
