Peterborough Beer Festival II
The Naming Ceremony by CAMRA to The RNLI Mumbles Lifeboat Station and Crew
9th October 2004
A proud day for the Mumbles Crew after receiving ownership of the new IB1 Inshore Lifeboat named Peterborough Beer Festival II. 24 representative made the 5 hour journey to Mumbles as a mark of respect for the ceremony. The new lifeboat takes over from the old D Class Lifeboat Nellie Grace Hughes and marks a new ear in the RNLI strategy towards saving life at sea.
CAMRA organise a week long beer festival in Peterborough and as part of the celebration, they make no excuses for wanting to support a worthwhile charity. For the past 3 years this has been the RNLI, with enough money raised to purchase 3 Inshore Lifeboats based at :
Redcar Peterborough Beer Festival I
The Mumbles Peterborough Beer Festival II
Relief Boat Peterborough Beer Festival III
With such support all crew wish to express a deep gratitude of thanks to all those people who unselfishly worked to make the festival such a success and just as importantly to the thousands of people who attended the 24th Beer Festival and contributed to the donation received.
PBII came onto station on 16th July 2004, within 3 days had completed its first rescue, and has since gone on to launch 18 times already this year. The crew have remarked on the improvements the boat gives to saving life at sea. None of this possible without the work of a few good men (and women!!).
As a crew we trust that you will keep up to speed with launches of the PBII and follow the success it provides to our coast in Swansea.
Next year a delegation of crew will have the unenviable task of returning the pleasure, by attending the Beer Festival, our problem being choosing who will stay behind to man the lifeboat.
Thanks Guys
Mumbles Lifeboat Crew
