The Mumbles RNLI Ladies Guild
In the 1930’s, Chairman Mrs Peachey, Secretary Mrs Tarr, members Mrs Edwards, Mrs Otteson among others used to sell Flags, organise coffee mornings and tee afternoons in order to raise money. It is believed that the name The Mumbles Ladies Guild was registered in the 1950 s when Mrs Joan Edwards Jones became treasurer. The chairman was Miss Elsie Williams who had been chairman since 1943. The Secretary was Mrs Margery Taylor.
In 1964 Peggy Morgan was invited to become Vice President also invited to be officers were members Miss Elsie Williams (Chairman), Mrs Margery Taylor (Secretary) and Mrs Loan Edwards Jones (Treasurer). When Lady Jenkins passed away in 1969, Peggy Morgan was invited to be president who is still continuing the excellent work to date.
After receiving the Gold badge, Elsie Williams naturally passed the chairmanship to Mrs Dulcie Bevan J.P.
Captain Jack Williams worked very hard for the finances of the guild. He organised many cocktail parties and dances in local venues in Mumbles. Jack and his good mate Reg Cottle should receive many thanks for their efforts.
In continuous efforts to raise money for Mumbles and the RNLI, Peggy Morgan helped to start up an associated membership with supporters of the RNLI. This involved members making in donation every year. This donation had no fixed pledge amount but only what members wanted to give. This has proven to be hugely successful and can be seen as a big influence in fundraising for the RNLI as a whole.
Today, the work of The Mumbles Lifeboat Ladies Guild continues as strong as ever. With coffee mornings, tee afternoons, sunny day gift selling, rainy day gift selling and many more essential fund raising activities.
